Unlicensed Driver Behind Wheel in Bus Crash

According to CBS New York, a 16-year-old unlicensed driver was behind the wheel of a Honda Accord that crashed head-on into a school bus earlier this year. His family members indicate that  the teen had a learner’s permit but had not received full driving privileges. He was required to have an adult in the car with him.

At the time of the accident, the teenage driver had three passengers who were all under the age of 18. Each is now in critical condition as a result of the collision. The crash occurred on Lake Road in New Castle. Authorities believe that the driver lost control of his vehicle while taking a curve near Crow Hill Road. Five people on the bus were also injured in the accident.

Second Unlicensed Driver Accident in a Month

The accident comes just over one month after five children were killed in a heart wrenching crash on the Hutchinson River Parkway. It is believed that the driver in the fatal March 20 accident was also unlicensed.

As reported by CBS News, a 16-year-old driver was behind the wheel of a rented Nissan Rogue when it veered off the road, striking a tree. The vehicle caught fire as a result of the collision killing the driver and four other children ranging in age from 8 to 17 years old. The sole survivor was a 9-year-old boy who was riding in the trunk and able to escape out of the back of the vehicle.
